Solar Off-grid/standalone Systems

The terms used for this system are Solar off grid or standalone system. This system does not involve any contact with utility grid (Electricity supplied from Electricity board/company).

Components Include

Solar PV Panels, Solar off grid inverter/Power conditioning Unit(PCU), Batteries, Balance of system(BOS) – Wiring, Electrical protection devices, Earthing

How The System Works

Solar PV panels generate electricity when exposed to sunlight. This electricity is in the form of Direct current(DC). The off grid Solar inverter has an internal/external Charge controller which regulates the charging current that needs to go to batteries. The stored electricity in the batteries is then used by Solar inverter/PCU to convert to Alternating current and is used by the loads in the building. Usually utility grid electricity is not used by this system.

Note:

Electricity grid can be connected when battery charging is required during monsoon or night time. In this case Solar inverter/PCU will charge the batteries via grid or power the loads via grid as per the Inverter setting
